Our Story
Fifty Years of Getting It Right
Industrial Machine Rebuilders was founded in 1974 in the Chicago suburbs by a machinist who believed that industrial equipment — built right and rebuilt right — should outlast the people who made it. That belief hasn't changed.
What started as a two-man shop with a single lathe has grown into a 40,000 square-foot facility with full CNC machining, in-house gear cutting, dynamic balancing, and load testing capability. We've rebuilt gearboxes for cement kilns, steel mill rolling lines, paper machines, oil field equipment, and food processing plants across the Midwest and beyond.
Three generations of the same family have worked these machines. The apprentices who learned here in the 1980s are now our senior machinists. That continuity of knowledge — knowing not just how to run the equipment, but why it fails and how to prevent it — is what sets us apart from shops that treat every job as a transaction.
How We Work
What We Stand For
Every unit that comes through our shop gets a complete teardown, dimensional inspection, and written condition report — no exceptions. Worn gears get cut to spec in-house. Cracked housings get Rebuilt. We don't clean up a failed unit and ship it back as rebuilt. You get a gearbox that performs to OEM tolerances or better!
We don't subcontract machining, gear cutting, or balancing. Every operation happens in our shop, under our control, on our schedule — which means yours.
When a critical drive fails at 2 a.m., we answer the phone. We've built our shop around the reality that industrial equipment doesn't fail on a convenient schedule. our shop never closes!
Every job ships with a 36 month warranty from the date of installation not the date of delivery! inspection reports, bearing records, and load test data. You know exactly what was done and what condition your equipment is in.
